Meditation Classes
Sitting, Walking and Reclining Meditation Techniques
First Sunday of each
month
4 – 5PM donations accepted
college students can attend for free
We often fix
our minds on a variety of objects and subjects everyday: the TV,
computer, twitter, music, solving a problem, reacting to a
situation, contemplating a person who either attracts us or
repels us, our aches and pains, etc. etc.. In a sense, our
ruminations are a form of meditation but often highly
disorganized and fragmented. When one thought rapidly follows
another, the mind feels busy from sunrise to sunset and
sometimes all thru the night. It can be exhausting.
Just as we
need to occasionally rest our body while awake, our mind also
needs to rest periodically. When we do this in a systematic way,
we often discover the root causes of our attitudes, emotions,
and behaviors. Meditation techniques provide a structured
approach to pausing and observing our own self in a direct,
honest, and compassionate way.
While
meditating can sometimes be a struggle between the restless mind
and the intention to focus the mind, the knowledge that is
generated during these self-study sessions is always useful in
our daily life of activities and relationships. Whether easy or
difficult, meditation is a scientifically proven stress reducer.
You do not have to be a yoga
student to attend this class. All are welcome. You will not be required to sit on
the ground (a chair will do just fine). Dress comfortably so
that you can sit, walk, and recline with ease.
Classes will
be taught by a variety of teachers and will always include
several minutes of practice time. Our intention is to provide
you with simple techniques that can easily be used at home, at
work, and anywhere that you find yourself.
Our studio
can accommodate 20 participants, so feel free to drop-in and/or
bring a friend. We will start promptly at 4pm. If you are
running a little late, enter the studio quietly and sign-in at
the desk.
The NGY director Suzanne Newton will be happy to answer your
questions regarding these classes. Please contact her via
email or call 336.294.8619.
