Our Teachers:
Suzanne Newton
Suzanne
Newton is the Director of New Garden Yoga.
She has studied with
many revered teachers
such as BKS Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar, Patricia Walden, Judith
Lasater and other talented and masterful teachers since 1983. Suzanne is registered with Yoga Alliance at the E-RYT
500 level and is the Co-director of Triad Yoga Institute’s 500
Hours teacher training program. She is a member of the Iyengar
Yoga National Association of the US and the International
Association of Yoga Therapists. From 1993 – 2007 Suzanne held an
Iyengar teacher’s certificate. In addition to teaching in studios, Suzanne
has taught yoga courses at several colleges: Smith, Wellesley, RISD, Brown, and since 2004, Guilford College in the Dept. of
Sport Studies.
Amy Gates
Amy Gates has
been a student of yoga for over ten years. She completed the
Ashtanga Teacher Training program for the primary series in 2002
with David Swenson at the Yoga Loft in Asheville, NC. She has also
studied with Elise Browning Miller, Donna Farhi, and Patricia Walden
in weekend workshops. More recently in 2009 she graduated from the
500 Hours Teacher Training course at the Triad Yoga Institute with
Suzanne Newton and Terry Brown. Amy has found yoga to be a grounding
practice in her own life, both spiritually and physically. She
enjoys teaching vinyasa style classes with special attention to
proper alignment.
Kate Selby
Kate Selby is
excited about teaching at New Garden Yoga! She has been practicing
yoga for six years, and graduated this past spring as an RYT from a
teacher-training program at the Triad Yoga Institute. She has taught
at Studio 318 in Greensboro and most recently in the Great Smoky
Mountains National Park. She is passionate about both practicing
yoga and communicating its benefits to others, and has experienced
its life-changing power firsthand. Kate first met Suzanne Newton as
a freshman at Guilford College in 2005, and has been studying with
her ever since. When not doing yoga, Kate enjoys baking, quilting,
backpacking, and bad puns.

Garrett
Martha
was inspired to begin her meditation practice in 1996 after years of
studying yoga asana. She studied shamatha techniques and the Four
Immeasurables with B. Alan Wallace in 2006 and continues to be
inspired by his writing. Currently she is active in the Greensboro
Shambhala group and enjoys the energy created from group meditation.
Christian
Gregory
Christian
is a student and teacher in the Shambhala Buddhist
tradition. He has been practicing for over 20 years and been a
student of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche since 1991. For more information

Daniel Rhodes
Daniel
completed his PhD in Cultural Studies from UNC-Greensboro in
2008 and his Masters in Social Work from UNC-Chapel Hill in
1996. Daniel has been a practicing Buddhist for the past 10 years
and a Clinical Social Worker for 13 years where he has incorporated
mindfulness and meditation into his clinical practice.
